Public Transport Should be Funded by the Government – Sample Answer 1
It is argued that public transport service should be solely subsidized by governmental budget. While this practice would be applied in certain cases, I believe that both the government and inhabitants should invest in the system.
That the public transport system is entitled to financial support by the authority may not be an ultimate practice. Firstly, although the nation’s inhabitants could experience the service for free, the fiscal budget may not guarantee sufficient capitals for maintaining the system operation, particularly the budget for maintenance and sanitation. Furthermore, beside the public transport service, there are other fields that need financial investment from the authority to wholly ameliorate the residents’ living standard such as transport infrastructure and medical service. Therefore, the complete subsidy for the public transport service may not only put the government under unnecessary financial pressure, especially in developing countries, but also require a higher tax payment from the residents. ieltsxpress.com
As opposed to the governmental funding completely for public transport, residents should be charged a small fare. In most countries, such as Korea, this practice would still encourage inhabitants to make use of the service, and the revenue would be generated for labor cost and other minor services. Furthermore, as the public transport operation is of prime necessity to a country, inhabitants should responsibly contribute to its development. Otherwise, the public transport system can be funded by the government, especially in developed nations, if the country has enough budget to invest in not only the public transport but other aspects as well.
In conclusion, I think that the public transport service should not only funded by the government but the residents as well
Public Transport Should be Free to the People Who use it – Sample Essay 2
Some people have argued that public transport should be completely funded by the state, while the government should really play a crucial role in public transport, I find it hardly plausible and practical to make public transport completely free for the public.
A more accessible public transportation system will benefit the city in many ways. First and foremost, it is the most effective way to address the growing problems of traffic congestion and air pollution. As the cost of public transport decreases, people are more likely to reduce the use of private cars, thereby reducing vehicle emissions that lead to toxic air pollution, mitigating congestion-related problems, and increasing productivity. Moreover, the government could reduce the huge cost of building and maintaining roads and bridges as the population moves from the private car to public transport. I E L T S X P R E S S
However, the idea of free public transport does not work as well as people think. Firstly, it places an excessive burden on the state budget, as a result, investments in other sectors, such as education, healthcare, and technology development, can be reduced accordingly. In addition, it remains unclear to what extent public transport will benefit traffic and the environment. Once public transport is completely free, the number of people who frequently use public transport could skyrocket, which could undermine the positive impact of reduced private car use and even paralyze the system at peak times.
To conclude, while free public transport sounds plausible in theory, in practice it will undoubtedly raise unexpected obstacles. To address the overuse of private cars, the government could improve public transport or introduce stricter regulations instead of providing free public transport.
