Describe A Time When You Were Stuck In A Traffic Jam
I live in a small town and in general, there is not much traffic on the roads. The only time we face traffic jams is when there is a religious procession or a political rally. And most of the times, these are announced beforehand so I rarely get stuck in traffic jams.
However, last month I had gone to Ludhiana to buy some clothes for my cousin’s wedding. When we went, there was no traffic. On the way back, the main road was shut down as there had been a collision between two buses between Amritsar and Ludhiana. Big cranes had to be called to remove the buses from the roads and that took time. This being a main road slowly led to a huge jam. The traffic police tried to get the traffic diverted through the service road. But the road was considerably narrower than the main road and because of that the traffic built up.
We were stuck in the jam for at least 2 to 3 hours. At first, we didn’t think we would have to wait for so long. We thought it was just busier than normal and things would clear up soon. However, when our car barely moved 100 meters in 15 minutes, my dad went out and inquired about what had happened. We couldn’t really back up as there was no space. So, we tried to use the time by playing games and listening to music.
To be honest, we also spent a big part whining about government failure, although we all knew such circumstances are unavoidable. I don’t think I could describe what we felt at that time. We all just wanted the traffic jam to clear up and reach home as soon as possible. But the day ended on a happy note as far I as was concerned. Because we reached home late, my mother didn’t get time to cook. And we got Pizzas to eat for dinner.

Well, traffic jam is quite a common scene, especially in big cities where people waste a lot of time in these jams.
I am going to talk about one such experience that I lately had where I was stuck in a jam for a long time.
Actually, my friend and I planned a weekend. We decided to go to Ludhiana on the weekend and have a lot of fun. We planned to go shopping, watch a movie in the cinema and later have a meal in a restaurant and come back home.
I was pretty excited about the same, and we were planned to travel by bus. The next morning, when I reached the bus stop, I received a phone call from my friend who cancelled the program for some reason, but I decided to travel alone. I vividly remember it was a pretty hot day, and I boarded a non air condition bus. It was fully packed, and Somehow, I managed to get a seat, but the journey was quite uncomfortable. It had been hardly 30 minutes, and the bus suddenly stopped.
There was a huge jam, and there was a long cue of vehicles ahead. The bus driver stopped the engine and went out to inquire. It was really difficult to spend the time waiting in this bus. So I decided to play a game on my phone or listen to music. I hardly spend 15-20 minutes and my mobile battery got flat. In the meantime, we got to know that the jam is because of a road accident and it may take a long time before the police let the vehicles to move.
It was the height of my patience because I couldn’t wait anymore and I was too much irritated because of the constant honking and toxic fumes of other vehicles, and that’s a reason why I decided to get off the bus and board a bus going the other direction.
Finally, after wasting around four hours, I was back home, and I was really frustrated because a traffic jam completely ruined my weekend.

Here I am going to talk about a situation when I got stuck in a traffic jam.
Getting stuck in traffic is a common phenomenon and it happens every now and then. People get stuck every day but when one gets stuck in an emergency kind of situation then it really affects. I got stuck recently when I needed to reach for an exam and I was late by 20 minutes near the crossing where there was a huge traffic jam.
I was already on time from my home but due to election and vip movements in the city there were too many diversion so this created lot of traffic on my route and I was stuck for nearly an hour.
I did nothing but wait and tried to call my friends and get information about alternate routes and one of my friends helped guide me with an alternative way to the exam centre. For I will I got irritated and then I started to listen music and I tried to keep my mind stress free so I can sit fresh in the exam and give my best.
It was a very irritating experience. Everybody was just honking and making unnecessary noise and some vehicles were emitting bad smoke which made breathing different for 10 minutes. Thankfully a police officer came and managed the traffic and everyone felt a sense of relief.

IELTS Cue Card on Traffic Jam
Well, traffic jam in our city is not unusual and the regular commuters often suffer from horrible congestion on roads. A recent study shows that around 20 hours of time is wasted for an average commuter each month in our city and that statistics depicts how heinous the traffic jam in our city is. While thinking about a time when I had to wait in a traffic jam, I could remember many such events and for this cue card topic, I will talk about a particular event when the traffic jam was so pathetic that I literally went mad!
It was about a year ago when I went to our national airport to see off a relative who would leave for the United Kingdom. On our way to the airport, the traffic was usual and we reached there in a taxi that took around 45 minutes. After I saw of this relative, I went to the nearby bus station to pick a public bus to return home. I got a bus within 15 minutes and in the next 10 minutes, the road traffic was good. All of a sudden the bus stopped at a traffic signal and it did not move for the next 20 minutes. People on the bus got anxious and they started talking about what happened. I got off from the bus to investigate what actually happened. I tried to talk to traffic police but he was so busy that I could not even grab his attention. I got back to the bus and I heard more bad news. Some passengers were talking about an accident and how that had created the deadlock on the route.
I bought a newspaper and waited next 30 minutes very patiently and was expecting that things would get back to its normal condition soon. However, it did not and I heard that many students have blocked the road as one of their classmates died because of the accident. Police and those students had a hot debate and they were adamant to leave the road until the bus driver who caused the accident was arrested and punished. It was a situation that would not be resolved soon and that’s why many bus passengers left the bus to get back to their home. I had to reach home and I heard that the alternative road was also blocked. I was quite furious at that time but had nothing to do. My cell phone battery was beeping to indicate that it will be turned off anytime and the distance was more than 2 miles to reach home. I decided to walk and then again waited for a few more minutes. Thus two hours passed and at that time I left the bus to walk.
Describe A Time When You Were Stuck In A Traffic Jam IELTS Speaking
It is common for everyone to get stuck in Traffic jams as it is the daily reality of busy city life. It can be very stressful and frustrating when on the road.
Some of us have had the worst traffic experiences. Here, I’d like to talk about a time when I got stuck in a Traffic jam. Last week, I got a chance to lead the presentation in a very high-profile meeting in my office. The meeting was scheduled to be held at 10 am sharp. Therefore, I had to rush to the office to avoid confusion. It was around 8 am when I was driving, and to my surprise, I found almost all the city dwellers on their vehicles rushing to their respective jobs. Since the other side of the road was under construction, all the vehicles had to move from the single lane, which caused horrible congestion. Little did I know that there would be a traffic jam ahead, and I had to wait for more than half an hour. It was highly irritating, and I was in a jittery mood, thinking if I could make it to the meeting. A little later, I saw a heavy wood-log carrying truck that had dropped a few logs on the road, leading to the traffic jam.
Eventually, the traffic police resolved the problem by moving the logs aside and clearing the mess. Annoyingly, I started my car, and somehow I managed to reach the office at 9.30 am and started preparing. I feel that the drivers should be more careful and the traffic police should prevent the plying of heavy trucks during the peak hours.
