The bar chart shows the changes in woman’s age when they bear their first child in 1966, 1986 and 2006.

It is clear that in 1966 and 1986, the majority of women in Australia had their first baby at a pretty young age. However, after 20 years it seems like they prefer to give birth to their firstborn later in their lives.

In 1966, the most common age group to had their first child for Australian women was 19-24 at 63%. Both the under 19 group and 25-30 group had relatively high proportions at 33% and 35% respectively. The other three groups had smaller proportions all under 10%. Twenty years later, the percentage of 25-30 group rose to 50% and became the most common age to give birth for the first time. The two youngest groups slightly decreased to 40% while the oldest group vaguely increased. ieltsxpress.com

By 2006, the highest proportion belongs to the 30-34 at about 45%. The 25-30 group took second place with 38% followed by the two youngest groups. Meanwhile, there was a remarkable rise for the oldest groups, with the 34-39 group reached a new peak at 30%.

Overall, it can be seen that the average age that Australian women first gave birth increased over the forty year period. However, those aged 40 and over were always the lowest percentage of women giving birth to their first child.

In 1966, the most common age to give birth for the first time was between 20 and 24 years old, at over 60%, which was almost double that for those aged 25 to 29 and 19 or younger, at approximately 38% and 34%, respectively. Meanwhile, those aged 30 to 34, and 35 to 39 comprised approximately 10% each. The proportion of women aged 40 and over who gave birth for the first time was only 2%.

In 2006, the percentage of women who had their first child at the age of 19 and under, or 20 to 24 fell significantly to approximately 10% and 30% respectively. Additionally, the figures for the remaining age groups all rose significantly, with 25 to 29 year-olds at just over 40%, 30 to 34 year-olds at just under 50%, and 35 to 39 year-olds at around 30%. The percentage for women aged 40+ also rose slightly to about 3%.

Overall, it is obviously seen that the age range from 20 to 24 years old was the most suitable time for women to give birth to their babies, while females over 40 were less likely to have a child throughout the given period.

As can be seen from the graph, there was a likelihood that the percentage of women between 25 and 30 years generally accounts for 40% to 60% during three years. Besides, the year 2006 witnessed the most significant ratio of over 50% of the age range from 30 to 34, while 1966 and 1986 only saw the percentage of roughly 15% in this category.

It is clear that there was a slight increase in the proportion of females giving birth to their first child from 34 to 39 years old, which made up from about 5% to 30% during the years. The chart shows the percentage of first-time mothers in Australia in three different years, 1966, 1986 and 2006. Overall, Australian women were more inclined towards having their first child during their later adulthood. The percentage of first-time mothers aged 30 or over was on the increase while women giving birth to their first child at the age of 30 or under saw an opposite trend.

Looking at the younger women, the majority of women aged 19 to 24 were first-time mothers, at 60%, and this number was two times higher than 35% of those at the age of under 19 and 25 to 30 when delivering their first child. In the next forty years, the percentage of 25-to-30-year-old first-time mothers peaked at 50% in 1986 then declined to under 40% in 2006 while the figure for women from 2 younger groups halved to 20% and 30%.

Of other groups, there was a dramatic growth in the percentage of women aged 30 to 34 and 34 to 39 giving birth to their first child from 13% to 45% and 8% to 30% respectively during the given period. In contrast, the percentage of over 40-year-old first-time mothers saw a relative stability at 5%.

In 1996, the 20-24 years old group had the highest percentage of women, which was above 60%, whereas, the middle age group had the least percentage of women who gave birth their first child. The 25-30 years old group and 19 and under group had a similar proportion of women, at around 35%. There was only 13% of women between 30-34 years old decided to have their first child, which was approximately 7% higher than the 34 to 39 ages group.

In the next 40 years, there was a significant fall in the number of young females when it came to giving birth to their first baby. By contrast, women who were in the middle increase significantly. Likewise, a considerable rise in the number of women from 25 to 30 years old to 52% in 1986, before dropped to around 43% at the end of the period.

The given graph presents data comparing the ages when women in Australia gave birth in the years 1966, 1986, and 2006. Overall, birth rates for younger women fell while the number of women having children later in life increased greatly. Women aged 30-34 became the largest group and those with the fewest children were under 19 and over 40.

Looking first of all at younger women, both those under 19 and between 20 and 24 declined over the period. The first group started at around 33% in 1966 before falling to just over 20% in 1986 and ending at nearly 15% in 2006. The 20 to 24 group similarly halved from over 60% in 1966 (leading all ages then) to under 40% in 1986 and finishing at just above 30%.

Mothers aged 25 – 30 were the second highest demographic in 1966 (37%) before fluctuating to over 50% and back down to 42% by 2006. Women in the 30-34 age bracket increased more steadily from 12% to 19% and then surged to become the leader at 47%. 34 – 39 year olds generally mirrored this climb rising from 7% to 12% to 29%.
